Junger Erwin

Composer, musicologist and teacher

He was a student at the Israelite High School in Timişoara, where his classmate was Ferdinand Weisz, who will become a famous pianist. He studied at the Cluj Academy of Music in piano class with pianist Magda Kardos and composition with musicologist Max Eisikovits.

Preparator at the department of music history (1950-1955), assistant at the department of composition (1955-1957), lecturer at the department of harmony / counterpoint (1957-1969) and associate professor (1969-1977) at the Conservatory of Cluj, scientific researcher and principal scientific researcher at the Cluj Branch of the Institute of Art History of the Romanian Academy (1955-1957). He wrote studies and articles in ÚTUNK (Cluj), FĂCLIA (Cluj), IGAZSÁG (Cluj) etc. He has given scientific communications, conferences, papers, radio broadcasts.

He emigrated to Israel in 1976. He has been a professor of composition at the Faculty of Musicology in Tel Aviv (Israel) and the Tel Aviv Academy of Music (since 1980). He is the author of numerous musical compositions (symphonies, chamber music, choral music, song cycle) and publications. His last address was in Haifa. He had a son and a daughter and five grandchildren.
